Position Summary
Under the direction of the SCADA Superintendent the Energy Fiber Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the fiber optic network within the electric utility infrastructure. This role involves collaboration with various departments and external entities to ensure the seamless operation and expansion of the network across the city.

1. Install, splice, test, and repair fiber optic cables within the electric utility's infrastructure.
2. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on fiber optic systems to ensure operational efficiency.
3. Utilize specialized equipment to locate, measure, and test fiber optics for faults and ensure quality transmission.
4. Responsible for mapping city fiber assets and maintenance of the fiber map and databases
5. Collaborate with city officials and departments to coordinate fiber optic projects across municipal boundaries.
6. Participate in city and regional planning initiatives to expand the fiber optic network.
7. Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to fiber optic networks quickly and
efficiently.
8. Document and report network issues and repair logs to maintain a comprehensive database for tracking performance and service disruptions.
9. Ensure all fiber optic operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
10. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during all operations.
11. When necessary, assist other work groups with construction and maintenance of other power facilities.
12. Assist SCADA group with any communication issues. Become familiar with and proficient with other communication methods.
13. Must be able to work independently and complete projects without constant supervision

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Physical demands (strength) includes exerting up to 100 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands (movement) includes balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, and feeling. Physical demands (auditory) includes talking and hearing. Physical demands (vision) includes near and far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, color vision, and field of vision. Environmental conditions and physical surroundings includes exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather. Exposure to high voltages and other dangerous conditions. Exposure to noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions, and confined/restricted work environments. Occasional exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and emergency situations.
Note: Employees in this position are required to be on periodic standby.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. associate degree or vocational certification in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
• Must possess a valid Utah driver license. A valid Utah Commercial Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.
• Fiber optic certifications from recognized bodies (e.g., Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), Fiber Optics Installer (FOI)) (Preferred) Certified in First Aid and CPR which must be maintained throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Technical Proficiency:
• Strong understanding of fiber optic technology, including installation, splicing, and testing techniques.
• Proficiency in using fiber optic testing equipment such as OTDR, power meters, and splicing machines.
• Experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance.
Analytical Skills:
• Ability to perform complex troubleshooting and analytical tasks to resolve network issues.
Communication & Coordination:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with city officials and external contractors.
• Ability to work collaboratively across different teams and departments for project
coordination.
Attention to Detail:
• High attention to detail in tracking, recording, and executing fiber network tasks and maintenance.
• Problem Solving:
• Strong problem-solving skills to devise solutions and alternative methods in response to technical issues.
Physical Ability:
• Capability to perform physical tasks, including carrying heavy equipment, ladder climbing, and working in elevated environments.
This role involves working in various settings, including outdoors in different weather conditions.
Note: Employees in this classification are required to be on periodic standby and/or respond to emergencies working extended hours without sleep during outage situations.
