Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Lead Aquatics Maintenance Operator, assists in the mechanical operation, maintenance and cleaning of all City of St. George pools and aquatic facilities.

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

1. Assists with the mechanical operations and maintenance of City Pool and Sand Hollow Aquatic Center.

2. Performs mechanical operations, pump maintenance, and repair and inspection of pool systems.

3. Checks and records the chemical balance of pool water systems as scheduled. Performs alkalinity, PH, hardness, chlorine residual, saturation index, and other chemical-related tests.

4. Assists in the operation and maintenance of chemical feeder systems. Ensures proper water safety by monitoring and recording chemical flow rates through the systems field computer.

5. Assists in setting up and reorganizing the facility to support and accommodate special events such as the Fernley Invitational, Triathlons, Senior games, and the High School Regional swim meet.

6. Performs various duties to maintain the cleanliness of the pool interior and surrounding areas, including restrooms, pool vacuuming, brushing, and netting interior surfaces and surge tanks.

7. Informs the Lead Aquatics Maintenance Worker of any vandalism, incidents, inspection problems, and other safety issues. Resolve issues as needed and directed.

8. Performs slide and Hydro-tube cleaning, maintenance, operation, and inspection. Maintains and repairs diving boards and other water attractions.

9. Maintains and repairs lockers and coin-operated systems.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Moderately heavy physical activity. Required to stand, walk, or sit uncomfortably for extended periods. Moderate exposure to disagreeable elements such as heat, cold, fumes, dampness, noise, or dust. Required to push, pull, or lift medium-heavy weights. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20-50 pounds of force frequently. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: You must be available to work some weekends, evenings, holidays, split shifts, and other schedules to accommodate the needs of the Aquatic facilities.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be 18 years or older

Experience:

Level I

● Pool maintenance experience preferred.

Level II

● CPO / AFO certification

Licenses and/or Certifications:

Level I & II

● Must possess a valid driver's license.

● CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required. Must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Level II

● Must possess Pool Operator Certification and keep certification current throughout employment. Certification must be recognized by the Utah State Health Department from an approved entity.
