Job Description

PPosition Summary

Under the direction of the Tennis & Pickleball Head Pro, Recreation Manager, and City of St. George will teach tennis/pickleball to beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages through clinics and camps.

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

1. Teaches Tennis and Pickleball to beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages through clinics, camps, classes and special events.

2. Promotes and markets the City of St. George tennis & pickleball program

3. Keeps Head Pro abreast of any concerns related to staff, programs, drop-in play, and equipment.

4. Communicates with recreation clerks at the front desk regarding court reservations and tennis / pickleball events.

5. Works camps, tournaments, leagues and clinics when scheduled.

6. Counts money and reconcile cash register daily

7. Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to help prepare for recreation offerings. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Instructor I:

Education: None required.

Experience:

• Minimum of 6 months to 1 year tennis or pickleball playing experience.

• Must be a 3.5 level or higher (determined by Head Tennis & Pickleball Pro)

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Instructor II

All requirements for Instructor I and in addition:

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching tennis/pickleball

Instructor III

All requirement for Instructor I and II and in addition:

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching tennis/pickleball

• Certified Instructor through PTR, PPR, or USPTA

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Be a good self-starter.

• Teach all lessons at Tonaquint or Little Valley Pickleball including private, group, junior and adults

• Work the schedule provided by the Head Tennis and Pickleball pro

• Be a team player and help others on staff

• Bring issues or concerns regarding players or parents to the Head Pro

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions

• Keep busy during slow times

Knowledge of:

• USTA and USAPA sanctions, rules and regulations

• Current industry teaching development and incorporates them into division teaching standards

• Understands that all private and group Tennis and Pickleball lessons taught within Washington County will be taught under the direction of the City of St. George tennis and pickleball program.

• Have knowledge of google or Microsoft applications

Skills:

• Highly motivated with excellent customer service skills
